Let's Get Organized!

 By LANA TRUSIO WILLIAMS

I'm a wife and the mother of a five-year-old, and I work full-time outside of my home. By no means do I have it all together, but luckily there's a part of my brain that allows me to focus on keeping things in order:organizing is my specialty. Here are some ideas that I hope can help you make the day run a little more smoothly:

Where can I put all my child's art masterpieces? My child has always been very active in arts & crafts. But how many boxes of clown faces can you have? What we chose to do is display all my son Matthew's projects on the garage walls. Each day or so we'd make a small fuss over the projects and hang them on the walls. How proud he'd be of his projects! And how entertained our friends and neighbors were when they saw this huge collage. I know this is a pretty good idea--I can tell as I drive by my neighbors' homes and see their children's projects hanging in their garages!

"Mommy, may I have a drink of water?" How many times a day do you hear that request? I don't anymore, because since Matthew learned to open the refrigerator door, he's been able to get his own water bottle (you know, the kind with the fold-down straw). I can't tell you how many trips to the refrigerator that has saved me.

Portable emergency supplies are a great idea, but if you tried to bring all the diaper rash ointment, Tylenol, baby wipe boxes and powders along, your diaper bag would be as big as your car! A way to solve that problem is by buying samples of baby toiletries, and asking your pediatrician for samples of baby medicines. Do this, and you'll never have to make a special trip to the store for something you have sitting on your shelf at home.
