I am looking for something to do as a gift from the kids to their mothers for mothers day. I have kids ranging in age from 2 to 10. Any ideas?

so far what we have done is started some plants for mom I will be picking up the small terra cotta pots ( they are dirt cheap ) and have the kids decorate them. Makes a lovely gift for mom. This is something we started last week already and are watching the plants grow.

Do ou think that it is too late now to start plants? What seed do you think would grow the fastest?

I think you have a little time as long at the seeds sprout a little and if that does not work just getting a bedding plant would work too.

Thank you for that idea gigi. I have seen kids plant a flower in an old runner of theirs. This makes it more personal and it is very cute!

easy for all ages!!!!! go to your local home repair store and get floor tiles let the kids paint them. then you paint mom on them and clear coat them and mom has a hot pad to put hot dishes on.

I have done there hand prints on paper and had them laminated and then have a poem so they will have their little hands forever

You can also make cool hand or foot prints with plaster of paris. You can make an imprint of their hand or foot in clay, or if you have a good sandbox you can wet the sand and have them walk across or push their hand into it. Follow the directions on the package. I use a soup or other small can. I usually mix enough for a few prints at a time. It tends to cakes up quickly, so move as fast as you can. Pour it in to the thickness you desire and level or smooth the top so that you have a flat back when it dries. Give it the afternoon to dry, then remove them from the mold. (the plaster will feel cool, and will look white not gray when it dries) Carefully lift them out of the mold and set them in a warm area to dry longer. You can paint them with tempra, acrylic, or just stain them with water color. I like to spray them with a clear acrylic spray after the paint dries. They are fragile, but the look really neat laying on a table or desk! For a smaller project make clay "pots". Then push the childrens thumb print in the center of the pot. Stick a straw into the clay above the print, to allow for a hole. Pour in plaster of paris then let it dry. Remove the straw, and have the children paint if you wish. String them on yarn or plastic. They make cute pendants that can later be hung on a christmas tree or elsewhere. You might want to give this a test run ahead of time so you will know how the medium works. I use the clay pot method with plaster of paris for a lot of different themes making molds of play dinosaurs, leaves, bugs, etc. The kids call love the little casts, they call it "money" and we play different games with them. I went to Michaels and I found some small clay pots picked up the bubble paint and let the kids make there own design the pots they were lke 49 cents ea,then when they were dry we put a scented votive candle,they turned out beautiful.And everyone loves candles.
